Bergstrom Electric has a wide variety of experience and knowledge related to construction and electrical systems. Since 1964 we have worked with customers, contractors, architects and engineers on all types of projects, installations and processes.

Commercial Projects

Bergstrom Electric has been involved in some of the largest commercial construction projects and renovations in its service area. We take great pride in our communities and are proud to be a part of so many great projects.

Here are some examples of our work:

Electrical Construction: $5.3 M

Year Completed: 2017

 

This 250,000 square foot new construction project included spaces for a corporate center, operations center, warehouse, equipment garage, and maintenance facility. The building sits on a 70 acre lot and employs about 200 personnel.

ICON Sports Center

Grand Forks, ND

Electrical Construction: $670,000

Year Completed: 2015

 

The new Icon Sports Center in south Grand Forks is a 90,000 square foot complex that includes 2 hockey rinks with seating for 500 spectators each, 10 team locker rooms, 2 levels of concessions, and also hosts office space for the Grand Forks Park District.

Electrical Construction: $1.8 Million

Year Completed: 2012

 

The 160,000 square foot Choice Health and Fitness Center offers 15,000 square feet of work-out equipment space, 3,500 square feet of group exercise studio space, a Cycling Studio, 14 sports courts (basketball, tennis, racquetball, and volleyball), one of the only rowing facilities in the Midwest, and an Aquatics Complex.

Electrical Construction: $646,584

Year Completed: 2010

 

The 62,801 square foot facility included several pools, fitness areas, and meeting rooms. Bergstrom designed and built the entire electrical system, including an elaborate sound system for the pool area, an electronic timing system for swim competitions, and a unique, suspended light rail system to light the pool area. Bergstrom also installed the Biomass heating system.

Electrical Construction: $2,176,700

Year Completed: 2009

 

The $17 million IRET Corporate Plaza is a 215,000 square foot, three-story building that features 74 upscale apartment units, 16 retail spaces, IRET's Corporate Office, and an underground parking garage. The project was awarded the Minnesota ABC 2009 Eagle Award.

Electrical Construction: $2.5 million

Year Completed: 2009

 

This 117,000 square foot expansion and remodel project for the Hector International Airport greatly increased the amount of room for hte checkpoint area, added a fifth passenger gate and a 3rd baggage claim area, as well as additional space for airline operations. Estimated at $15.5 million, the facility also included a Lutron dimming system with motion sensors.

Educational Projects

BEI has its PhD in electrical projects for educational buildings. From elementary to middle schools, combined K-12, and restoration projects on 100-year-old college campuses, we know how to wire an educational environment to help today's learners become tomorrow's leaders.

Year Completed: 2017

 

The $3.5 million, 13,000 square foot building is the first "net zero" school on tribal land in the United States. Its energy efficiency partly comes from the 264 photovoltaic (solar) panels on its roof, solar tubes for free lighting, and its ground-source geothermal heating/cooling system.

The new $18 million, 26,000 square foot NDSU Veterinary Diagnostic Lab is fully accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. The lab is a full service laboratory offering toxicology, bacteriology, virology, molecular diagnostic, clinical and anatomic pathology, parasitology and serology testing services.

UND - Robin Hall

Grand Forks, ND

Electrical Construction: $1.5 million

Year Completed: 2016

 

This four-story building is used for aerospace education and research, including UAS (unmanned aircraft systems). Interior spaces include a large auditorium, classrooms, student study rooms, administrative offices, and a two-story "hangar" where UAS students can practice maneuvers. This unique 119,500 square foot collaborative learning center is the first of its kind in North Dakota. The state-of-the-art STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) instructional building is a student-focused learning environment that consists of 23 collaborative work/study areas. It is estimated that 4,000 to 5,000 students will use the building daily.

UND - Wilkerson Commons

Grand Forks, ND

Electrical Construction: $2.7 million

Year Completed: 2015

 

The $14 million renovation and addition to Wilkerson Dining Hall modernized the largest food service center at the University of North Dakota and created additional efficiencies. The redesign of the lower level also created a contemporary gathering space that provided meeting, study, and social spaces for students.

Year Completed: 2013

 

The Barnes County North School brought three existing schools under one roof in a new PreK-12 school located in rural Leal, ND. The 85,000 square foot facility was designed to handle up to 500 students, although it currently serves just over 300 students from a large, primarily rural, geographic area. Lincoln High School Addition

Thief River Falls, MN

Electrical Construction: $1.8 million

Year Completed: 2013

 

The 12,000 square foot addition included a new commons area that joined two existing wings of the building. The project involved completely removing and replacing the two existing electrical services to the building. Bergstrom scheduled over 600 man-hours a week during the summer of 2012 to complete as much work as possible before school started.

The 100,000 square foot, $7.5 million Rugby High School remodeling and addition project took almost a year and a half to construct, continuing while school was in session. It included updated and remodeled classrooms, science labs, bathrooms, HVAC systems, and new high efficiency lighting.

Located about an hour south of Bismarck, ND, the new 66,398 square foot elementary school on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation includes 30 classrooms and unique design elements to remind students of their cultural heritage. Challenges on the project included its remote location, which required additional coordination and accommodations fo rhte crew as well as no cell phone and limited internet service during construction.

Year Completed: 2011

 

The University of North Dakota renovated their 48,770 square foot Education building and constructed a 21,000 square foot annex connecting the building to Gillette Hall. Bergstrom completed the complex electrical construction that included motion sensors in every room to achieve LEED certification. The project also required the relocation of the Gillette Hall transformer.

Healthcare Projects

Healthcare is a highly regulated industry and construction/remodeling projects take on a different level of complexity in that environment. Bergstrom Electric is experienced in the special nuances of healthcare design and construction as well as the installation of highly specialized equipment. Altru Health System

Grand Forks, ND

Bergstrom has been the primary electrical contractor for most of Altru's facility projects for the past several years including

  • the renovation of their South Washington campus,
  • the Lake Region Clinic Renovation and Addition in Devils Lake,
  • the Family Birthing Center renovation,
  • the Cardiology/Administration Remodel, and
  • the Linear Accelerator Replacement.


Bergstrom is one of only four electrical contractors that has been certified to do work for Sanford Health System. We have completed numerous projects for the organization over the past 8 years, including

  • their 150,000 square foot Meritcare North Addition,
  • the Southwest Clinic Renovation,
  • the Sanford Birthing Center project,
  • the Emergency Room remodel, and
  • the Sanford Eating Disorder renovation.

Sanford Behavioral Health Remodel

Fargo, ND

Electrical Construction: $666,448

Year Completed: 2015

 

  • This $3.2 million remodeling project included 5 High Equity rooms and 12 patient rooms along with adding a
    new heating and generator system. Bergstrom Project Managers saved the owner money and the project time by finding alternative routing for the new conduit, which prevented a major disruption to other trades.


Electrical Construction: $1.7 million

Year Completed: 2013

 

The $14.4 million project included a 25,000 square foot addition and a 25,000 square foot remodel. Bergstrom used BMI (Building Information modeling or 3D drafting) to design and route their electrical piping in coordination with all other trades to avoid conflicts during construction.

Electrical Construction: $615,445

Year Completed: 2012

 

This 16,000 square foot interior remodel of an elderly care/nursing home/assisted living facility also included a 16,000 square foot addition of a new 16-bed Alzheimer's Wing with a multipurpose area and offices. Extensive coordination ensured that residents were not inconvenienced during the remodel portion of the project.

Year Completed: 2012

 

The 15,000 square foot renovation of Truyu Aesthetic Center added an Operating Room area, including pre-op and post-op areas, med gas systems, the lab and one surgery suite, created dermatology space, and relocated the reception desk, massage area, and exam rooms.

Electrical Construction: $191,000

Year Completed: 2009

 

The project involved a 4,600 square foot addition, a 3,800 square foot remodel of existing space, and two drive-up canopies. Bergstrom also installed a new CT Scanner and scheduled their work in the evenings so that the facility could be operational during the day.

Industrial Projects

Electrical Construction: $920,000

Year Completed: 2013

 

The $5 million Spirit Lake Water Treatment Plant provides clean water to over 700 service connections on the Spirit Lake Reservation. The project required 8,600 feet of trenching, some of which was done during the winter, requiring the use of Bergstrom's unique 660 trencher with carbide frost teeth.

Electrical Construction: $414,000 (both projects)

Year Completed: 2011 and 2007

 

Bergstrom has been providing electrical contracting services to the Farmer's Elevator of Honeyford for many years. The most recent projects were expansions in 2007 and 2011 that added 4 new grain tanks and a conveyor system as well as an unloading pit and a touch-screen Motor Control Center.

Electrical Construction: $950,000

Year Completed: 2012

 

This 26,000 square foot facility provides clean water to 10,000 people in three rural counties of North Dakota. Bergstrom crews installed a 2000 amp, 480 volt service and a lot of control wiring for numerous sensors and switches that the equipment required, including several motors to move water through various filters and chambers.

LM Windpower

Grand Forks, ND

Electrical Construction: $904,000

Year Completed: 2011

 

LM Windpower is the world's leading supplier of blades for wind turbines and has a facility in Grand Forks, ND. A change in the Electrical Code forced the company to rewire the area where workers spray the molds for the blades. Bergstrom had completed the initial electrical construction on the facility in 1999 and was brought in to do the rewiring, keeping the plant fully operational throughout.

Crookston Bean

Crookston, MN

Electrical Construction: $100,000

Year Completed: 2011

 

This 16,000 square foot facility was a design-build project that included a 4,000 square foot milling area (where peas are cleaned, processed, and packaged for shipping), an 11,000 square foot storage room, and a small office. Bergstrom Electric designed the entire electrical system, including all of the controls for the facility, automating almost the entire system, which increased processing capacity by an estimated 50%.

Year Completed: 2010

 

This $18 million Water Treatment Plant is a two-story, 8,700 square foot facility, which included an elaborate control system that interconnected every valve, pump, and solenoid in the building. Bergstrom also had to lay their conduit in a double layer rebar mat with very little reference points.

Government Projects

Electrical Construction: $1.6 million

Year Completed: 2017

 

The $11 million Mercer County Courthouse and jail expansion project consisted of an addition that joined the existing courthouse with the nearby law enforcement center/jail and a remodel of both older buildings. The addition included a new jury courtroom, court administration space, jury deliberation, indoor rec area, full service kitchen, two dormitories and tow pod like situation cells and other court support areas. The jails addition of 28 beds increased the total to 54 beds that included dedicated medical services.

Electrical Construction: $3.3 million

Year Completed: 2012

 

The $16 million West Addition of the Cass County Courthouse in Fargo, North Dakota included three large new courtrooms, holding cells, office space, two mechanical rooms, and an underground parking garage. The 72,306 square foot project doubled the size of the existing courthouse and included an enormous amount of security, requiring over 67 miles of wiring to connect all of the cameras and doors to the security center.

Electrical Construction: $1.7 million

Year Completed: 2012

 

This addition/alteration project remodeled about 38,000 square feet of existing structure and included a 65,400 square foot addition. It provides units with administration, classroom, unit supply, kitchen, physical fitness, weapons, vaults, and locker room space as well as a 14,850 square foot unheated enclosed vehicle storage area.

Air Traffic Control Tower/RAPCON

Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND

Electrical Construction: $1,560,000

Year Completed: 2010

 

The new, $12.5 million Air Traffic Control Tower and RAPCON (Radar Approach Control Facility) is a state-of-the-art system that allows the US Air Force to monitor and control all civilian commercial air traffic in the upper Midwest. The project included extensive sitework, which entailed electrical man-holes, duct bank systems, high voltage switching, primary transformers, primary conductors and terminations, as well as fiber optics and copper cabling for the communication systems.

Electrical Construction: $1.55 million

Year Completed: 2010

 

Located on the campus of the University of North Dakota, this two-story, 40,000 square foot building provides labs and other facilities for various research companies. Because of the sensitive nature of the research being conducted, Bergstrom employees were issued security access cards and hazardous material suits for the project.

Electrical Construction: $2.5 million

Year Completed: 2008

 

The $25 million, 147,000 square foot facility included a new 225 bed Corrections Facility with an elaborate security system for both male and female populations and a Justice Center with offices for Tri-County Community Corrections administration, Polk County Attorney's Office, state public defenders, and the District Court and Administration. Bergstrom crews laid over 38 miles of conduit to tie all of the security, paging, fire alarm, door control, and camera systems into the command center.
